چکیده

This paper presents one of the first real-life demonstrations coordinated and distributed resource control for secondary frequency response in a power distribution grid. A series tests involved up to 69 heterogeneous active energy resources consisting air handling units, unidirectional bidirectional electric vehicle charging stations, battery storage system, 107 passive building loads solar photovoltaic systems. The setup consists set Raspberry Pi end-points exchanging messages via an Ethernet switch. Actuation commands are obtained by solving allocation problem at every regulation instant using ratio-consensus, primal-dual, Newton-like algorithms. formulation minimizes sum costs while tracking aggregate setpoint provided system operator. We demonstrate accurate fast real-time computation optimization solution effective signal over 40 min time horizons. An economic benefit analysis confirms eligibility participate ancillary services market demonstrates $\$ $ 53k potential annual revenue selected population resources.

Dynamic Voltage Regulation Using Distributed Energy Resources

Many distributed energy (DE) resources are near load centers and equipped with power electronics converters to interface with the grid, therefore it is feasible for DE to provide ancillary services such as voltage regulation, nonactive power compensation, and power factor correction. A synchronous condenser and a microturbine with an inverter interface are implemented in parallel in a distribut...

Coordinating Heterogeneous Distributed Energy Resources for Provision of Frequency Regulation Services

We discuss a framework for coordinating the response of distributed energy resources (DERs) connected to electric power distribution networks to provide frequency regulation services. These resources include plug-in electric vehicles, thermostatically controlled loads, and microturbines. In this framework, we consider an aggregator that participates in the real-time market by submitting an offe...

Model Predictive Control of Distributed Energy Resources with Predictive Set-Points for Grid-Connected Operation

This paper proposes an MPC - based (model predictive control) scheme to control active and reactive powers of DERs (distributed energy resources) in a grid - connected mode (either through a bus with its associated loads as a PCC (point of common coupling) or an MG (micro - grid)). DER may be a DG (distributed generation) or an ESS (energy storage system). In the proposed scheme, the set - poin...

Coordinated control of distributed energy resources to support load frequency control

The control of generating resources to follow the unscheduled load changes is considered to be an essential process in the power system in order to maintain the frequency of power supply. This load frequency control (LFC) problem has been given more importance in the recent smart grid environment because of the impact from high penetration of distributed energy resources (DER) installed at the ...

The Value of Distributed Energy Resources for Heterogeneous Residential Consumers

The presence of behind-the-meter rooftop PV and storage in the residential sector is poised to increase significantly. Here we quantify in detail the value of these technologies to consumers and service providers. We characterize the heterogeneity in household electricity cost savings under time-varying prices due to consumption behavior differences. The top 15% of consumers benefit two to thre...
